Celebrate the solstice with me! We’ll gather on the first day of summer for a day of hiking, swimming, creating, and relating with reverence to the land (and each other) at beautiful Malibu Creek!

Starting the morning with a plant walk in the Santa Monica Mountains, we’ll explore what’s blooming, leafing, and fruiting under the sun on the longest day of the year. As we walk alongside the creek under the generous shade of valley and coast live oaks, I’ll talk about the natural history and ecology of this place, and share plant science and stories intended to invite you into deeper relationship with the land and beings living there.

We’ll finish our (short and gentle) hike with a swim in Malibu Creek! After our refreshing dip, we’ll head to camp where we’ll enjoy local flavor-infused drinks and snacks provided by Kylie of Kitchen Sink, and work on a sun-themed natural dye project. You’ll make a “sun jar” to take home with you, a dye brewed slowly by the sun (think: sun tea), infusing saturated color from locally grown dye plants into a soft silk bandana, made in ritual relationship with this beautiful land on the first day of summer.

Join me Wednesday, June 21 from 10am to 3pm at Malibu Creek State Park in Calabasas. Spots are quite limited for this event, with the intention of keeping the experience intimate, personal, and special for all who attend. Hope to see you there!

A couple things to note:

• There is a $10 entrance fee at Malibu Creek State Park, which includes parking for the whole day.

• Carpooling is encouraged for environmental friendliness, and to ensure available parking for everyone!

• Snacks and drinks will be provided, but please plan to bring a lunch (and plenty of water) to enjoy during our time together.
