Relating to Funga & Flora with Aaron Tupac – December 18, 2022
Join Aaron Tupac of Exploring the Mycoverse & Erin Berkowitz of Berbo Studio for a guided walk by the Arroyo Seco where we’ll explore the funga and flora living around us, how they relate with each other, and how we humans relate to them.
Aaron (they/them) is a naturalist, myconaut, and community organizer whose work explores funga (according to Giuliana Furci: “The word Funga is the correct word for the diversity of all fungi in a place”) and their essential role in the interconnection of all living beings. Fungi are among Earth’s most ancient life, forming the living webs that weave together ecosystems – we have much to learn from them! And after a string of rainy days, we’re hopeful to see some of their magnificent reproductive bodies (mushrooms) on this walk.
Erin (she/her) is a natural dyer and plant educator who is passionate about connecting people with place, seeing through the lens of natural color to inspire both creativity and relationships of care for the land and more-than-human beings living there. On this walk, she’ll share about plant dyeing and other ways humans have been connecting and collaborating with plants for many thousands of years (ethnobotany), and stories, myths, and science that will encourage deeper relating to our local ecosystem.
We hope this conversational walk will inspire deep connection (and collaboration) between us and the fungal and floral beings we’ll meet! Join us Sunday, December 18, 11am-1pm for a 1-2 mile gentle hike by the Arroyo Seco in Altadena. Details about location, parking, etc. will be sent by email, so please ensure your email address is correct when checking out.
Hope to see you there!
