A Garden of Color – August 10, 2025
Sunday, August 10th, 10am-1pm
I’m so excited to announce my first workshop in Ojai—and right in my home neighborhood, at Meiners Oaks Community Garden.
About the Garden:
Meiners Oaks Community Garden is a 7,500 sq ft green oasis in the heart of Meiners Oaks where neighbors can grow organic food, connect, and learn together. Its mission, “Sow. Grow. Connect.”, comes alive through hands-on workshops, volunteer days, seed swaps, and wellness events that foster food sovereignty and community spirit. It’s a welcoming space for people of all ages, races, genders, and sexualities to dig in, share knowledge, and cultivate something beautiful together.
All spring and summer I’ve been nourishing seeds into sprouts and flowers, growing plants cultivated especially for their vibrant natural dyes, and the time has come to share the harvest with you!
Join me for A Garden of Color, a workshop creating botanical prints (also known as eco-printing, or bundle dyeing) with plants from my garden plot, which we’ll harvest by hand together to make artful, symmetrical prints on cotton squares which can later be worn as bandanas or displayed as art.
We’ll have a full spectrum of natural color at our fingertips—red from coreopsis, orange from cosmos, yellow and green from pericón, blue-purple from hollyhocks (and more).
Gardens are ideal places for experimenting—in our time together we’ll explore plant and dye science, dye gardening practices, and of course, the “printing” method you’ll use to create your unique work of botanical art.
Yet this time outdoors, and this process in particular, invites a playful, meditative sort of creativity, where we can think a little bit less, and let the connective, inspiring nature of working with plants take over.
All experience levels are welcome, although this class is best suited for adults. Feel free to reach out to erin@berbo.studio with any questions.
